And as soon as He was alone, those who were around Him, with the Twelve [apostles], began to ask Him about the parables. AMP

And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. KJV

He said to them, To you it has been given to [come progressively to] know (to recognize and understand more strongly and clearly) the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that, [though] looking, they may not see; and hearing, they may not comprehend. And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. KJV

These things all taken together Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, without a parable He said nothing to them. AMP

This was in fulfillment of what was spoken by the prophet: I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things that have been hidden since the foundation of the world. [Ps. 78:2.] AMP

With many such parables [Jesus] spoke the Word to them, as they were able to hear and to comprehend and understand. AMP

And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. KJV

This is the reason that I speak to them in parables: because having the power of seeing, they do not see; and having the power of hearing, they do not hear, nor do they grasp and understand. AMP

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. KJV
