Then the disciples came to Jesus and asked privately, Why could we not drive it out? AMP

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? KJV

However, Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He referred to falling into a refreshing and natural sleep. AMP

Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. KJV

And He said to it, No one ever again shall eat fruit from you. And His disciples were listening [to what He said]. AMP

His disciples did not understand and could not comprehend the meaning of these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified and exalted, they remembered that these things had been written about Him and had been done to Him. AMP
